Fay Wilson has been living at Winnwood Retirement Community for just over 2 years. Following hurricane damage to her home, Fay decided to move into one of our independent living apartments, close to where her brother lives. When it came to making the decision, Fay was drawn to Winnwood’s convenient location—next to the historic Marietta Square—where she could visit shops and take walks.
Having toured many retirement communities in the area, Fay enjoyed Winnwood’s town-like setting, plethora of activities and warm, family atmosphere. Let’s hear some more from Fay!
“I wake up in my apartment and after taking a shower, I make myself a coffee then relax watching TV. After this, I get dressed and make my way down to breakfast—where I usually grab a table with one of my friends” (another Winnwood resident).
“I like to stay active, in fact, Winnwood’s full activity calendar was one of the main reasons I moved here. All outings on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays I attend. We recently visited Georgia Aquarium, which was fascinating.
Social hours, seminars, movie nights and resident lead games also keep me busy and give me a chance to catch up with the girls.”
“I prepare my lunch myself in my apartment kitchen. When the weather is pleasant, I sometimes enjoy a picnic in the beautiful grounds.”
“I like to have a routine, which I stick to. I also take advantage of Winnwood’s services like meal preparation, apartment maintenance, landscaping, and housekeeping.”
“The staff at Winnwood are all super friendly, it’s really got that family atmosphere going on. Usually I’ll chat with the admin bunch, dining staff and our Activity Director, Alison Maddox.”
“Yes, my family visits me here. I actually moved to Marietta in order to be closer to my brother.”
“I love Friday night movies, which I go to every week at 7.30pm. Sometimes I even go to the Saturday night movie too! Which is on at 7pm.”
“I feel really safe where I am, I know staff are available 24/7 if I need them and I haven’t had anything strange happen. It’s nice to know my neighbors so well, as I have also become familiar with their visitors.”
We hear from seniors everyday that wish they'd moved earlier to take full advantage of all the activities our retirement community has to offer, while they're still in good health. There’s no best age to move, but whenever you—or your loved one—is ready for a more engaging, fulfilling lifestyle, it might be time!
