This Time of Year

I love the Christmas Season – beautiful decorations going up in my neighborhood on Maxwell Avenue, the nostalgic smells of oak and hickory bellowing from neighbors chimneys, the joy of seeing families picking out their trees and the excitement in the eyes of the little ones. I have always liked the trees that are a little funny looking. My cats even got a tree this year.  Twelve whole inches tall and from the dollar store.  Not going so well on day 2. Pretty funny!!

I have the best job in the world at Winnwood Retirement Community.  As I pull into our nine acres off Whitlock Avenue, our remarkable staff is busy shuffling residents around and decorating for the season. Chuck Helinger, our chief engineer of 22 years says, “We can compete with anyone with our exterior Christmas lights”.  The energy continues as I enter our three buildings: Winn, Teem and Sullivan. (My gosh am I in The Biltmore Estate?) Beautiful decorations with cheerful resident smiles passing me by and saying, “Good Morning, John.”  Nicolle Williams, Winnwood’s amazing Executive Director, shares photos and stories with me about the very successful  Christmas parties we hosted and catered over the weekend.  A teachers’ sorority and our gracious neighbors, Marietta First United Methodist Church, both had parties here. If you would like to experience the Winnwood fun or are looking for a retirement community, I invite you to our annual Christmas party on December 13. Come experience the joy of this beautiful community!  Limited spaces available so please RSVP to Kimberly (770)428-6200.
