Eating Without Guilt

Throughout our life, our body’s nutritional needs change. As we mature, our metabolism slows, tastes buds change, we may develop allergies, or just plain get sick of one particular food! Here at Winnwood, we recognize that our residents have individual needs and our awesome culinary staff is up to the challenge!

According to the National Council on Aging, a healthy diet for seniors should include the following:

  • Lean protein (lean meats, seafood, eggs, beans)
  • Fruits and vegetables (think orange, red, green, and purple)
  • Whole grains (brown rice, whole wheat pasta)
  • Low-fat dairy (milk and its alternatives)

Winnwood’s amazing culinary team strives to give our residents the right balance of nutrients and caloric intake, accommodate special diets, AND make everything delicious! In our Assisted Living residence, we provide three meals per day plus snacks. Our Independent Living residents are served an evening meal and have additional healthy options through our numerous food-related activities.

Chef Kevin and his team take great pride in creating delicious, healthy food for our residents. On any given day you may find them in the herb garden picking fresh basil for a recipe, getting a tomato from the resident garden, or down in the kitchen making fresh olive oil!

Eating right is comprised of many things. The right food, the right quantity, and eating at the right time of day can prevent illness and promote a fuller, richer life.

A well-rounded environment provided to Winnwood’s residents is our number one priority.  We want to help maintain mental acuity, improve emotional health, and your overall well-being. Providing great, healthy food is just one of the many ways we do that!
