square

There are many things to love about living at Winnwood Retirement, but one of our many perks is how close we are to the historic Marietta Square. It’s an easy walk, but our transportation staff will happily take our residents and drop them off for an hour or two to  shop, eat, or enjoy one of the many events offered.

Here are just a few things happening in August on the Square:

Open Bluegrass Jam at the Australian Bakery
Tuesdays – 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join in the circle inside the shop or pick in one of the several groups that have blossomed under the oaks out front on the sidewalk for Open Bluegrass Jam every Tuesday on the Square. All skill levels are welcome. Come in to play or just to listen and if you’ve got a tune you want to share.

Wine Tasting
Wednesdays,  5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

The Marietta Wine Market holds weekly Wine Tastings every Wednesday 5pm-7pm and Saturday 2pm-4pm. Each week we sponsor a different local charity and serve complimentary hors doeuvres. A $10 donation is suggested.

Haunted Walking Tour
Fridays, 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm

This tour is the original tour that made Ghosts of Marietta
famous. Here you will find yourself walking the streets of our haunted
city by lantern light, guided by one of our talented storytellers.

This tour is approximately 90 minutes and the walk is under a mile.

Tour Times
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
8:30pm – Summer (April 1-Sept. 31)
7:30pm – Winter (Oct. 1-March 30)

$17.00 for Adults (plus tax)  $12.00 for Children (12 and Under, plus tax)

First Friday Art Walk
First Friday Art Walk at Marietta Square presents a free self-guided tour of the finest in visual and performing arts. Visit us 5 – 9 pm, rain or shine, the first Friday of April through October (except for July 4, 2014). Galleries, museums, restaurants and boutiques host local artists and stay open late for shopping. Park for free on the streets, and in the parking garage after 4:45 on Cherokee Street across from the Strand Theatre. Find maps at each participating location (look for window banners), at Art Walk sidewalk signs, from Ambassadors (wearing white aprons), and online at www.artwalkmarietta.com.

These are just a few of the fun things available to our residents. You can also visit the DK Gallery, enjoy the Farmer’s Market, shop for antiques at Duprees – the options are endless.
