Local Authors to visit Winnwood

On Wednesday, October 21st, Winnwood Retirement will hold its first Author Expo. The event, featuring several local authors, was the brainchild of Winnwood’s Vice-President, John Rauls.

“One of our employees, Lisa Lewis Tyre, recently had her first book published through Random winnwoodAuthorHouse/Penguin.” Rauls said. “It was chosen as an Amazon Best Books of October by their editors. We wanted to support her accomplishment and the event just grew from there.”

There should be something for everyone. Tyre’s book, LAST IN A LONG LINE OF REBELS, is for middle grade students, 10 – 14 years old and she’ll be joined by author/illustrator Alison Hertz who recently published a picture book called FLAP.

Also presenting is Patty Conley, co-author of SHE CAME FROM ALABAMA, who wrote the memoir with her mother Katie Yarbrough while her mom was a Winnwood Resident, and Lisa Harris, author of BLACKBERRY MORNINGS, a collection of short stories published in September.

“It’s amazing how many people love to write,” said Rauls. “As we were planning the event we learned that a resident, Dixie Golden, is also the author of a book called UNFINISHED CONVERSATIONS. She’ll be moderating the panel for us.”

The Expo will include a social with the authors, a panel discussion about the books, and a book signing. The only one not signing will be Rauls.

“I write for a couple of senior publications, a weekly column for the MDJ, and occasionally for the Huffington Post. I haven’t had time yet to publish a book,” Rauls laughed. “One day, hopefully!”

The Author Expo will take place in the Teem lobby, at 3:30 pm and is free and open to the public.
