Here We GLOW Again

I have verified grandparents do indeed love and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. With Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas looming, there are sure to be many grandchildren visiting Winnwood. Winnwood has a Halloween party every year that is quite the spectacle. The residents, families and staff all dress up, displaying their best costumes for prizes.

One Halloween when I was about 8 years old, my grandmother took me to Westgate shopping center in South Macon. It’s no longer there, but if I remember correctly we went to Key’s Catalog Showroom. It was one of those places that had everything. I don’t remember exactly how an 8 year-old talked his grandmother into buying him a can of green, glow-in-the-dark slime, (remember that stuff?) but I did and oh boy!  Well, not having any sense, I opened up the jar in the back seat of the car and went to rubbing it in my hair. Yes, I always wanted one of my super powers to be able to glow in the dark. Needless to say I got myself in a pretty bad spot but my grandmother was as cool as a cucumber about my mischief. The stuff was made out of an oil-based product, so it would not rinse out with just soap! She patiently sat me down in one of my dad’s old chairs and diligently began combing and cutting it out. When she was all done I remember giving her a big hug and saying, “Don’t tell my mom!” She said, “Our secret is safe John.” I love grandmothers!! Oh, and I never glowed in the dark!!!

Have a blessed week!
