Cherry Blossom Trip to Macon

At Winnwood, we look forward each year to the chance to visit Macon for the Cherry Blossom Festival. With over 300,000 Yoshino Cherry trees in full bloom, it’s truly a spectacular drive. And the best part of the trip, we get to visit our sister community John Wesley Villas for a Cherry Ice Cream Social. This year we had planned to go for the second week of the Official Cherry Blossom Festival, but most of the trees were just beginning to bud in the last week of March, so we made our trip on April 1st.

In the neighborhoods across from Wesleyan College are some of the oldest (and most beautiful) Cherry Trees in the area.

Finally, after our lovely drive through some of Macon’s beautiful old neighborhoods, we stopped by John WesleyVillas for some Cherry Ice Cream before we headed back home.

Spring Drive in Cartersville

We had to postpone our trip to the Cherry Blossom festival in Macon because the trees weren’t in full bloom. Still, the weather was warm and we didn’t want to waste a lovely afternoon, so we headed up to 41 towards Cartersville. After a delicious lunch at the Fruit Jar Cafe, we headed over to Dillinger Park in Cartersville. It was perfect weather to get out and feed the ducks and the geese (and the giant catfish)!

“Christmas In July” Support the Troops Update

One of my favorite activities from last year was the Winnwood “Christmas In July” celebration. Residents and staff came together and worked with “Soldiers’ Angels” to collect gifts and write cards to our troops stationed overseas during the holiday season.

Christmas Party 2009

We had a jolly good time at our Annual Christmas Party. We had three separate entertainment groups ranging from the Andrew Sisters Impersonators to a Sinatra Singer and a two-man blue grass group.

We also had Corporal Kevin of the United States Marine Corps drop by to pick up over 200 toys we collected for Toys for Tots. Next year, we hope to double that contribution!

Santa made sure to stop by with Mrs. Claus. He handed out candy canes and, of course, took everyone’s wish list. The kids were so excited!

Veterans’ Day

Veterans’ Day is a very special day here at Winnwood. It is our chance to honor all those who served and are serving our great country. Here are a few pictures from our Veterans’ Day Service.

Mr. Golden, Marine Corps Veterans, opened the Service with patriotic piano music.

Speakers at our Service included Major Ed Gray, Major Glenn Suppe, and President of the Winn Resident Council Ellen Hart.

Fall Color Tour

At Winnwood, we are so lucky to be living in such a beautiful part of the country. On Nov. 5, we decided to just take a drive and enjoy the scenery. We started our day with a scenic drive up 41 and then stopped by the Allatoona Dam.

Then, we head over for a delicious lunch at the Fruit Jar Cafe in Cartersville.

After Lunch, we drove back by the Cooper Iron Works. Then, it was up and over Red Top Mountain and back home to Winnwood. We really couldn’t have asked for a nicer day to see some of Georgia’s beautiful countryside.
